Outside of the quarterly proposal intake, Conduit Arts remains open to proposals all year round with varied review and response times depending on availability of board members. We feel this proposal process enables spontaneous ideas for exhibitions, performances and events to be realised as well as those needing a long lead-time. Conduit Arts Initiative also believes that different forms of artistic expression demand different programming approaches so also provides flexible programming for events of varied durations.

Conduit Arts encourages applications from all artists, performers, musicians, collaborations and mediums. These can include (but are not limited to) performance art, improvised and experimental music, visual arts, installation, experimental cinema, durational-based practices, residencies and collective workshopping days.

When thinking about approaching Conduit Arts applicants are asked to consider the space's focus on development whilst also considering the physical space, including the large window that looks onto Brunswick Street.

The duration for a project can be anywhere from one day/night up to one month. Common pricing structures are listed below, or for specific duration prices please contact Conduit Arts at info@conduitarts.org

PROCESS

To address the varied proposals Conduit receives, applicants are asked to firstly submit an 'expression of interest' in order to establish whether a full proposal is needed. The general rule is, if it's a one night event an EOI should suffice. If a longer or more complex project is being proposed the full application form will need to be submitted within two weeks of Conduit requesting the full proposal.

This EOI needs to contain (in an email or in the form below):

  • Applicants name and phone number

  • A basic description of your practice i.e. what kind of performer are you, what mediums do you work in, what kind of music do you play, etc.

  • A description of the premise and duration of the event being proposed, the basic running order and the installation required (if applicable)

  • The time period you are seeking and whether this is flexible.

  • Add any links to your website, soundcloud or documentation from previous performances.

Note: Although this is a less formal way of discussing an event with Conduit, we urge you to still take time and care presenting your idea/concept at the EOI stage as this will greatly assist the board in ascertaining whether a full proposal is needed. Please also keep in mind that Conduit Arts will treat every EOI and/or application with considerable time and thought so reasonable intention to continue with the proposal, should it progress, is required.

SUSTAINABILITY MODEL

As part of our sustainability model, Conduit Arts Initiative, constantly strive to reduce the costs associated with hosting an event or exhibiting. During longer period events (1 week and longer) the bar revenue, once over the $150 cap, is returned to the artist as a way of subsidising the fees paid. This enables fees to be greatly reduced indirectly by the artist's audience. Opening night hours are extended for this reason and the courtyard at the back of the gallery extends the social environment whilst also allowing for better viewing conditions within the gallery space on the night.

COMMISSION

Conduit Arts takes no commission from artworks sold. Conduit will assist in the process of the sale i.e. printing pricelists and taking buyers details but the artist needs to organise the payment and pick up of the works by the buyer.

DOOR & BAR

If a door person is required for the event it is the applicants responsibility to organise this. Conduit Arts will supply a door float. The bar at Conduit is run and stocked by Conduit Arts.
